Can you remember someone who left a positive influence in your life, who helped you to achieve a better version of yourself? Mentors such as church and community leaders, foster parents, and social workers play an essential role in imparting wisdom and committing to be available in the time of need. Minister, father, and foster parent Howard L. Coleman heeded the call to co-parent and counsel a son by marriage, who has been incarcerated since age 18. In an attempt to remind his son that God would move on his behalf after years of imprisonment, Coleman shared well-received scriptures and inspirational teaching sermons by mail and answered questions during visitation. This process of spiritual exchange inspired "Letters of Liberation: Encouragement for the Incarcerated Soul." Liberated thoughts and concepts for anyone currently experiencing physical, emotional, and spiritual captivity include power, love, and justice; managing anger; being thankful; and pursuing purpose.
