PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Temple Hills, Md. — A new book club for men and women who love to read and discuss faith-based books, “Titles & Texts,” is featuring its first book selection on Sunday, August 17, 2025.Titles & Texts

The book, Stumblin’ Towards Calvary, is the latest body of poems and essays by Washington D.C.-area folk-performance poet Billye Okera, who will be reciting from her work at the book club launching and discussion.

“Titles & Texts is designed to be an intimate gathering of readers in the community who in August, will discuss the path to discovering God, struggles of faith, African American church culture, and abuse, based on our featured book and some of our personal experiences,” says RGMI Press Publisher Aisha Asare, creator of the book club.

As a poet recognized by the late D.C. Poet Laureate Delores Kendrick as a Poet In-Progress, Billye Okerawill also discuss her essays and candid journal entries published in the book chronicling her D.C.-based upbringing and faith journey on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 3:00 PM, in theClinton/Temple Hills area.

“The launching of the book club and discussions planned will be a way to support literacy, promote creative writing, and foster critical thought among local communities of faith,” Asare says.

Heavy in metaphor, free verse, colorful imagery, and meter, Stumblin’ Towards Calvary is equal partswords of worship, struggles of faith, and a summoning of the conscience of the Black Pentecostal/Apostolic Church, which is a familiar culture Billye Okera encapsulates throughout thepages, and will be the central theme of the August “Titles & Texts” book club discussion.
