About the Author:

Lanee K. Sheffield is a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who loves literacy and sharing that love with others. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Elementary and Reading Education from Bowie State University. She serves faithfully with her church family of United Baptist Church. As an elementary educator and Reading Specialist, she supports the literacy success of young scholars. Since 2018, she has taken her passion for literacy and scaled her impact through founding Study Street K8, LLC, a literacy advocacy company that supports scholars K-8, families, communities, and literacy leaders such as educators, administrators, authors, and speakers. She has shared her love of literacy from various platforms, but one most notable event was her TEDxBowieStateUniversity talk in 2024, “Igniting a Love of Literacy,” where she encouraged everyone to “start small, start simple” with growing and cultivating a love of literacy in young readers. This curated journal is a dream turned reality, an opportunity to encourage others to build a love of literacy through wonderful words and writing.
